Jackson County residents celebrate a community victory for local healthcare

Holton, KS [Nov 5, 2025]— The Board, staff, and leadership of Holton Community Hospital extend heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Jackson County for their overwhelming support in passing the countywide sales tax proposal to sustain and strengthen local healthcare services.

“The outpouring of support we received from our community was truly amazing,” said Carrie Lutz, CEO of Holton Community Hospital. “We heard your voices—in person at our town hall meetings, through social media, in committee discussions, and even in those side conversations at restaurants and coffee shops. Every interaction helped us understand what matters most to Jackson County families, and we are deeply grateful.”

Throughout the campaign, the hospital worked to provide clear, factual education about the challenges facing rural healthcare and the critical importance of maintaining access close to home. The campaign reflected a shared commitment to protecting emergency care, family medicine, and specialized services that residents rely on every day.

“This has been a community-led effort from the start,” said Roger Stockman, Manager of Marketing & Recruitment for Holton Community Hospital. “We had volunteers, local leaders, and countless residents step up to spread awareness and move the message forward. This vote wasn’t just about a hospital—it was about protecting a way of life, keeping jobs local, and ensuring future generations have access to quality healthcare without leaving Jackson County.”

With voter approval, the 0.25% countywide sales tax will provide sustainable financial support for Holton Community Hospital as it continues to modernize facilities, invest in medical technology, and expand access to essential care. The decision reinforces the hospital’s long-standing partnership with the community it serves.

“Our promise moving forward is simple—we listened, we understand, and we will continue to strive to bring our vision to life here in Jackson County,” said Lutz. “Together, we’ll keep delivering the high-quality, compassionate care our community deserves.”
