  • Holton Community Hospital Promotes K-State’s “Dining With Diabetes” Program to Support Community Wellness

Holton Community Hospital History

Dining with Diabetes program from K State Extension office coming in February 2026Holton, Kansas — As part of Holton Community Hospital’s ongoing Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) response to improve chronic disease management and expand access to preventive health education, the hospital is proud to promote Dining With Diabetes, an evidence-based program offered through K-State Extension.

Dining With Diabetes is a four-session series designed for individuals living with diabetes, prediabetes, or those supporting a loved one with the condition. Participants learn practical, hands-on strategies to manage diabetes through nutrition, food preparation, physical activity, and lifestyle choices. Each session includes cooking demonstrations, tasting opportunities, and expert guidance to help individuals feel confident in making healthier decisions every day.

“Diabetes continues to be one of the most significant health challenges facing Jackson County,” said Carrie Lutz, CEO of Holton Community Hospital. “Programs like Dining With Diabetes empower our community with practical, accessible tools—not just information, but real skills that support long-term health. This is exactly the type of education our CHNA priorities call for.”

The program is led locally by Teresa Hatfield, M.A., Family and Community Wellness Agent for the Meadowlark Extension District. Hatfield brings extensive training in nutrition, health communication, and chronic disease prevention to the series. Registration is required for this program.
