Holton Community Hospital’s Emergency Department is open 24/7, ready to help you anytime. Our team is fast, caring, and knows what they’re doing. We are a designated Level IV Trauma Center by the state of Kansas.
Our nurses and emergency staff have special training in advanced support for heart issues (ACLS), children’s emergencies (PALS), and serious injuries (TNCC or ATLS).

At Holton Community Hospital, we provide comprehensive inpatient and observation care for all ages, ensuring first-class service. Our facility features modern, well-equipped patient rooms with amenities like large-screen TVs, private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and access to a serene courtyard. Our nursing staff, highly trained and certified, benefit from excellent nurse-to-patient ratios, ensuring personalized and attentive care. Each patient receives consistent care from a local MD, who prioritizes individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the patient and their family. Additionally, most patients are assigned a dedicated Patient Care Coordinator to streamline discharge planning and support a successful transition home.

The Swing Bed Program at Holton Community Hospital (HCH) offers patients the opportunity to recover and rehabilitate with skilled care in a supportive, compassionate environment. This program is ideal for patients who need additional time in the hospital after an acute illness, major surgery, or injury.

This team collaborates with you and your loved ones to ensure your needs are met, both in the hospital and after discharge, so you feel confident and supported when returning home.

Your care plan is tailored to your unique needs and may include:
- Physician-ordered skilled services
- Designated healthcare professionals providing services
- Service schedules and frequency
- Necessary equipment or supplies (e.g., wheelchairs, oxygen, feeding tubes)

Qualifications for a Swing Bed Stay
For Medicare and Medicaid Enrollees:
- A three-day consecutive stay in an acute care hospital within the last 30 days (excluding 23-hour observation stays).
- Skilled needs related to the condition treated during the qualifying stay or complications arising from it.
- Physician and staff documentation supporting the skilled needs.
For Privately Insured Patients:
- Precertification from your insurance provider to determine eligibility and duration of stay.
Important Note: Medicare beneficiaries are responsible for their co-insurance amount after the 20th day of a skilled or Swing Bed stay.

Most treatments require a referral and provider order.
Your provider does not need to be affiliated with Holton Community Hospital to refer you.

Treatment of Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is caused by a virus. Antibiotics are NOT needed and treatment is aimed at relieving symptoms and making your child comfortable. Your child may be sick for 7 to 12 days but his or her cough may persist for up to four weeks!

Call a Doctor if:
- Your child’s temperature is greater than 100.4 degrees F.
- Your child begins breathing very fast or hard.
- Your child is feeding poorly.
- Your child develops a rash or skin condition.
What is Bronchiolitis?
Bronchiolitis is a common sickness where the breathing paths get swollen and filled with mucus. It happens mostly in fall and winter, caused by viruses like RSV, the flu, and adenovirus. It’s most serious in kids under two.
Symptoms start like a cold—stuffy or runny nose, cough, and a slight fever. After 2-3 days, it can get worse, with symptoms like very fast breathing, noisy breathing (wheezing), trouble eating, and fever.
Our Outpatient Bronchiolitis Clinic (OBC) helps children under 24 months old who have bronchiolitis. If your doctor says your child has bronchiolitis, you can bring them to the clinic. We offer nasal suctioning to help avoid a hospital stay. You can visit the clinic up to 4 times a day for 6 days if you can’t manage your child’s nasal mucus at home. We’re open all day, every day.
